The Sundance Institute has revealed two Victorian films - Noise and William - will be screened at the prestigious 2007 Sundance Film Festival next month in Salt Lake City, Utah. Noise was one of two Australian features selected for competition and William is the only Australian short film to screen at the Festival.

The feature film Noise (Director and Writer: Matthew Saville, Producer Trevor Blainey) will have its world premiere at the festival. Noise is one of 16 films selected from 929 entries world wide to screen in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition.

Film Victoria was instrumental in the development of this project, providing both script development and production investment to the film.

Noise is the first feature from Director Matthew Saville and stars Brendan Cowell in the lead role of a young policeman dealing with the after-effects of a terrible crime. William (Director: Eron Sheean Writer: John Brumpton Producer: Peter George) was co-produced through Film Victoria’s Short Film Fund with the Australian Film Commission. It tells the tale of an indigenous side show magician who encounters an unwelcome passenger, forcing him to revisit a past he would rather forget. Sundance will also be a premiere for William when it screens as part of an international collection of short films.

CEO of Film Victoria Sandra Sdraulig said “This is a tremendous opportunity for the creators of Noise and William to showcase their work at such an important international festival. Film Victoria is proud to have supported both projects and we congratulate the filmmakers on this great achievement.”

Noise will be released in Australia next year by Madman Cinema.

The 2007 Sundance Film Festival will run from 18 to 28 January 2007. The prestigious North American festival is an invitation only festival that is a premiere showcase for US and international independent films, which has a focus on directors.

Presenting 122 dramatic and documentary feature-length films in nine distinct categories and approximately 80 short films each year, the Sundance Film Festival has introduced American audiences to some of the most innovative films of the past two decades.
